Fused Components Class
Class Information:
Date/Time: Thursday, 5/1 from 9am-5:30pm
Location: Classroom 1
Instructor: Alysa Phiel, Wild Desert Glass
Cost: $275
Max Students: 10Imagine creating amazing fused glass components out of scrap glass. You will get hands-on experience making five different components that can be used in on-edge projects. These components can easily be created from your leftover glass pieces and scraps! Two of the components are created from glass strips cut on the Morton System, and one component is composed from stacked geometric shapes. The other two components are created entirely from tiny scrap pieces of glass and stringers.
We will be discussing damming methods to retain the crisp patterns required in some of these designs, we will be building a glass box to create one component and discussing different uses for the glass box construction. If time allows, we will be demonstrating cutting the fused components on a tile saw, and how to reconstruct the pieces to create the patterns. You can just take these components home and use them at a later date.
Students should bring: glass cutter, running pliers, mosaic nippers, black permanent marker, ruler, tweezers and safety glasses.
